Hungarian Opera House

The Opera House is not only one of Budapest’s most significant historic buildings but also the first institution of the 300-year-old Hungarian opera, and the symbol of the Hungarian classical music culture. The impressive palace, designed by Miklós Ybl, opened its doors on 27th September 1884. The 3-ton bronze auditorium chandelier, which can be lowered to the ground floor chairs by the help of a hand-winch, is a historical relic of applied arts today. The Hungarian State Opera House, which is a member of the Opera Europa, is a nationally recognised, state-owned theatre and performing arts organisation.

Hungarian Parliament

This impressive work of art built in the late 1800s is the third largest parliement building in the world and the largest building in Hungary. It is a blend of styles, its base Baroque, its facad neo-Gothic and its ceiling Renaissance. The arthitects spared nothing, using 40 kg of 22-23 karat gold for its ornamentation. Do not miss the Holy Crown, dating back to the 1100s (and perhaps even earlier), one of Europe's oldest coronation relics and symbol of the Hungarian State.

St. Stephen’s Basilica

The monumental Basilica is Hungary's second tallest building along with Parliement. This is where the mummified right hand of Hungary's first king, Saint Stephen, is kept, a holy relic found more than 900 years ago. The climb up to the dome, where the country's largest bell chimes, is rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view over the city. 

Heroes' Square

Heroes' Square serves as the Hungarian national pantheon and forms gateway to City Park, visible from Andrássy Avenue. Kex figures from history form a colonnade around a statue of the Archangel Gabriel. On either sie, the Museum of Fine Arts showcases great masters, the Hall of Art, contemporary works.
